What is the Australian Workplace Index?
+

The Australian Workplace Index delivers future-focused business insights and intelligence in the areas of leadership, wellbeing, and productivity.

Who is the Australian Workplace Index for?
+

All businesses in Australia.

Why should I participate in the Australian Workplace Index?
+

Understand how your business performance stacks up against Australian and International competitors. Benchmark your organisation against top performing Australian firms, and against two international databases - The World Values Survey and The World Management Survey.

How much does it cost?
+

It's free.

How do I sign my business / team / organisation up to the index?
+

Register your interest online and a member of our team will contact you.

What is the minimum number of staff / team members that can participate?
+

The workplace must employ a minimum of 15 employees.

How long will it take to participate?
+

Information is collected from all employees within the workplace using an online diagnostic which takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. More detailed information is required from corporate team members, but all up, it is less than an hour.

Is there one instrument for each business, or does it vary based on sector?
+

The diagnostic instrument is largely the same across industry sectors although some questions may vary to account for industry specific differences.

What is the expected timeframe from data collection to receiving the results?
+

The results are analysed and provided to you within 15 working days.

What can I expect to understand from the results?
+

Where your business is performing well and where there are opportunities to improve.

Who is behind the Australian Workplace Index?
+

It is a strategic initiative of The University of Newcastle and The Australian National University.

How long will the index be operating?
+

We plan on it becoming an annual event.

How often is the trend data captured and reported on?
+

Participating companies can repeat the process each year. The database is updated continuously as new firms go through.

How is my business / team / organisation’s data used to share trending data and insights?
+

Your data will remain confidential and anonymous at all times. The project has received Ethics Clearance from the participating Universities. Your data will be included into our database in an aggregate format and will be included in such a way that your firm or employees can never be identified. All data collected from participating organisations, as part of the Australian Workplace Index, will remain anonymous and confidential at all times. This project has received research ethics approval from The University of Newcastle and complies with Australia’s National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. Ref: Approval No. H-2021-0382.

Who can access my results and how secure is my data?
+

Only the researchers can access the raw data, which is stored securely within high security data servers at the University of Newcastle. All researchers who have received ethical clearance can access participant data.

What assistance do I receive from AWI during the process?
+

We will help you through the set-up process by collecting the data we need from you and providing you with the communication templates that you can use with your people to encourage high participation rates and to manage their expectations about what you will do with the data.

Registering

How do I express my interest?
+

Follow the link: https://www.australianworkplaceindex.com.au/contact-us

How do I know if my business / team / organisation is eligible to take part?
+

If it has more than 15 people, then it is eligible.

I’ve expressed interest and confirmed involvement. What happens next?
+

Once you register, we organise a call back, talk you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

Our checklist is complete and we’re ready to engage the business / team / organisation. How do we ensure a successful rollout?
+

We provide you with guidance and templates to encourage high participation. Beyond that, we do the rest.

Does AWI manage the distribution and data collection?
+

Yes.

How long should the online diagnostic be open to the participants in my business / team / organisation?
+

Approximately two to three weeks. We work with you to ensure we have enough participants to make the benchmarks meaningful.

What happens if we experience technical issues during the data collection period?
+

Call us and we will liaise with your IT people but most businesses have few or no issues.

What happens if our team isn’t engaged and the data collection is slow?
+

We can keep the process open and work with you to increase the participation rate.

What is the maximum number of participants the project can handle?
+

There is no maximum. Where you have many employees (i.e. in the hundreds) we can break up the population into business units if it makes more sense in interpreting the results.

Where are my results stored?
+

Securely within servers controlled by the research team.

Results and Dashboard

How long until we can see the results for my business?
+

Raw data summaries are available within minutes once we close the survey. The full results are analysed and provided to you within 15 working days.

What are ‘actionable’ insights?
+

We show you areas where your performance can be improved upon.

What type of insights will I receive to help improve my business?
+

In the areas where we benchmark performance e.g. productivity, leadership and performance. However because of the unique way we analyse your data, we can segment based on various criteria including gender, education levels, job types and business unit so you get greater insights that can be actionable.

How often are the macro trends updated on the index for reference?
+

The data is upgraded continuously as more data is added. As more companies participate, the researchers will update the database so new insights can be provided.

What is the expected timeframe from data collection to receiving the results?
+

The results are analysed and provided to you within 15 working days.

What is the dashboard?
+

The interactive online dashboard is your interface for querying and accessing the data. It remains open to you and allows you to return to the data and use it again and again.

What can I expect to understand from the results?
+

Where your business is performing well and where there are opportunities to improve.

What do the results tell me?
+

How your organisation is comparing against the benchmark, where you may have opportunities for improvement and the data can be analysed at a very granular level which means any interventions you decide to implement can be highly targeted.

What do I do after we receive our results?
+

Work with your leadership team to consider the implications of the results and what you may want to try in order to improve your scores.
